People often mix together three different situations – we separate them clearly below.

The answer depends on which situation you mean: an active AU placement, removal as an authorized user, or closure of the underlying account.

Situation 1: Active AU Placement

A purchased AU placement is scheduled time as an authorized user on the underlying account. TradelineScore’s Buy page describes approximately two or three billing cycles of placement. The exact scheduled removal date is provided after purchase in the payment receipt and order portal. The displayed Reporting Window describes expected posting, not the full placement period. Its last day is the listing-specific Final Reporting Date. Being added to the account does not mean it is already visible on every credit report.

Situation 2: Removed as an Authorized User

Removing someone as an authorized user is different from closing the underlying account. Experian’s guidance for someone managing their own AU relationship is to contact the card issuer to request removal, then check their credit report to confirm the change. If information remains incorrectly, they can contact the credit bureau to request a correction. For a purchased TradelineScore placement, contact TradelineScore support about order, reporting or removal problems. Contacting an issuer is not a universal instruction for purchased placements.

Situation 3: The Underlying Account Closes

This is a separate, general credit-reporting practice, not an AU placement term. Experian explains that a closed account in good standing can generally remain on a credit report for up to ten years. This is typical positive closed-account retention, not a universal legal limit and not a promise that a purchased AU placement remains visible for ten years. What happens after AU removal is a separate question. See the CFPB’s credit-report retention guidance for how positive and negative information differ.

Three Situations, Not One Timeline

People often see short-term AU placement periods discussed alongside a 10-year closed-account rule and assume they describe the same thing. They do not.

Scheduled AU placement

Approximately two or three billing cycles

Exact removal date in the receipt and order portal after purchase.

AU removal

Varies by issuer and bureau

Report visibility after removal is not a standardized outcome.

Closed account in good standing

Generally up to ten years

Typical retention, not an AU placement term or a universal legal limit.

These are three different situations, and they should not be treated as one timeline.

Why This Distinction Actually Matters

The displayed Reporting Window and scheduled AU placement period describe different things. Your receipt and order portal provide the exact scheduled removal date after purchase. What happens after AU removal is separate from placement length. Typical retention of a positive closed account does not extend a purchased placement. Reporting, continued visibility, credit scoring and lender acceptance are different matters. Reporting does not guarantee a credit-score increase or lender approval.

What Affects Expected Reporting

  • The card’s statement date and when the authorized user is added relative to it
  • Issuer reporting practices and how quickly each credit bureau processes updates
  • The listing’s Reporting Window and applicable order terms

Listings do not disclose specific historical credit-bureau coverage. A Reporting Window is not a universal countdown from purchase or a promise of continuous visibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my tradeline actually be active?

TradelineScore's Buy page describes approximately two or three billing cycles of scheduled AU placement. Your exact scheduled removal date is provided after purchase in your payment receipt and order portal. The listing's Reporting Window is the expected posting range; its last day is the Final Reporting Date. Neither is a promise of continuous report visibility or a credit-score result.

Does "10 years" mean my purchased placement lasts that long?

No. The ten-year figure refers to typical retention of a closed account in good standing, not the length of a purchased AU placement or a guarantee of a score benefit. Positive information is not subject to a universal ten-year legal removal limit. Your scheduled placement and what happens after AU removal are separate questions.

What causes a tradeline to be removed early?

Account closure or an issuer's reporting-policy change can interrupt visibility before the agreed Removal Date. Reaching the agreed Removal Date is scheduled removal, not early removal. If a purchased line disappears unexpectedly, contact TradelineScore support promptly and review the applicable Posting Guarantee, Refund Policy and order terms. The order-specific Dispute Period governs first reporting of initial nonposting; qualifying early-removal or material-service-failure protection continues through the agreed Removal Date. Claims require review under the applicable terms; there is no automatic refund simply because a deadline passes.

What happens after I'm removed as an authorized user?

Report updates after AU removal vary by issuer and bureau. Check your credit reports to see whether the change appears. For TradelineScore order, reporting or removal problems, contact TradelineScore support. Experian's issuer-contact guidance applies to someone managing their own AU relationship; it is not a universal instruction for purchased placements. If information remains incorrectly, you can contact the credit bureau to request a correction.

Can a closed account remain on a credit report for years?

Yes - Experian states that a closed account in good standing can generally remain on a credit report for up to 10 years. This is a general closed-account rule, though, and shouldn't be confused with what happens specifically when you're removed as an authorized user - see the question above.

Do all bureaus remove tradelines on the same schedule?

No - each bureau processes updates independently. See Which Credit Bureaus Report AU Tradelines for the full picture.
