Watch: How Many Tradelines Should I Buy?

How many tradelines should I buy

Short answer: there is no universally right number of tradelines, and Tradeline Score can’t tell you one for your credit file. Adding more authorized-user accounts does not guarantee a better result. The factors below are what to weigh.

Why More Isn’t Automatically Better

  • Each authorized-user account that is reported appears separately on the credit report, and results depend on the whole credit file, not on any single account or the count.
  • Scoring models treat authorized-user accounts differently. myFICO notes that in recent versions of the FICO Score, authorized-user accounts have less impact than primary accounts.
  • Reporting varies by issuer. Experian notes that an authorized-user account only appears if the issuer reports it, and its effect depends on how it is managed.
  • Lenders may evaluate authorized-user history differently depending on the underwriting method. See how manual and automated underwriting treat tradelines.
  • Each additional account is a separate purchase with its own age, limit, issuer and reporting window. That is more details to check, not more certainty.
  • A tradeline adds an account to a report. It does not remove or change items already on it.

This is educational information, not financial, legal or credit-repair advice.

Which model a lender uses can change how authorized-user accounts are treated.

What is already on the credit file, and what an added account would and would not change.

Questions Worth Asking Before You Buy

  • Which scoring model and underwriting method will the lender use? Only the lender can answer this.
  • Which bureaus does each listing expect to report to?
  • Do the listings’ expected posting windows differ? See the authorized user tradeline timeline for how timing works.
  • Is what I want to address something an added account would change, or an item already on my report?
  • Would a licensed credit counselor be worth speaking with first?

Frequently Asked Questions

How many tradelines should I buy?

There is no standard number. It depends on the individual credit file, the scoring models and underwriting methods a lender uses, and budget. Adding more accounts does not guarantee a better result.

Does buying more tradelines guarantee a higher credit score?

No. Each authorized-user account that is reported appears separately, results depend on the whole credit file, and recent FICO versions give authorized-user accounts less impact than primary accounts.

Do multiple tradelines post at the same time?

Not necessarily. Each account follows its own issuer’s statement and reporting cycle, so listings can post at different times. See the authorized user tradeline timeline.

Can a tradeline offset negative items on my credit report?

A tradeline adds an account to a report. It does not remove or change items already on it, so an existing negative item is a separate matter.

How do I choose a trustworthy provider?

Look for verified sellers, clear listing details and a stated posting policy. See how we verify sellers and our Posting Guarantee Policy. Escrow protection applies on eligible orders.
